The Background

St. Peter’s University is a Jesuit institute of higher education located in Jersey City, NJ. Saint Peter’s is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, founded in 1872. Saint Peter’s University blends a unique learning experience shaped by rigorous academics, internships that provide real-world experience, community service, and a genuine, caring community that supports you long after graduation.

The Challenge

Their identity speaks loud and clear to its students and potential students. Ensuring signage represents who they are and what they believe in cohesively remains important throughout every project. The student center was made possible through many generous gifts from the school’s alumni. Recognition of those gifts was a signature element in the signage requirements of the new student center. As such, DSS was tasked with the following challenges:

  • Create a standard sign family for the new student center that could be rolled out across campus.
  • Design the sign family to recognize individual active and/or future donors.
  • Create a unique donor recognition wall that would not only appropriately recognize current/active donors and have the flexibility to acknowledge future gifts but also connect to the vibrant student community and environment at St. Peter’s.

The Solution

DSS has worked with Saint Peter’s on close to two dozen projects over the last ten years. Some projects have come via general contractors and public bids, whereas others have been direct from Saint Peter’s thanks to our excellent history of work with the school. Over the years DSS has not only ensured ADA and building code compliance around the campus but we have also worked directly with the marketing department to help brand the College (and rebrand the University 6 years later), the Office of Advancement and External Affairs to pay tribute to the school’s tremendous group of patrons and donors, Dean of Students to help open the new Student Center and the Business School to celebrate their expansion with the erection of a free-standing monument complete with 4 – 10mm LED panels and scrolling LED message boards.
